Our Role in the Community
As a public library, we service the needs of the whole community. Our mission is to provide informational, recreational, and educational support to our community.
Our library provides:
- materials for homework, projects, and research
- different reading levels and materials for improving literacy
- books, magazines, movies, music and tv shows for entertainment
- books and online video tutorials for learning new skills
- workshops for career development and job searching
- books, tools and makerspaces for developing hobbies
- spaces for studying, group work, get togethers, and events
- health and wellness programming
- fun and social events to connect with neighbours
Community Interests
Members of our community are interested in finishing their studies, developing skills for better jobs, relaxing after busy week at school/work, and pursuing their hobbies.
Community Demographics
From learning new skills to discovering new hobbies, Rouge River Public Library aims to be your lifelong partner, your “life-rary“. We hope that our library can be your informational support at any stage of your life. We hope to provide the materials and tools to support your educational, professional, and personal interests.
Rouge River community is a young, vibrant community mainly made up of mostly adults (32%) ages from 20 to 44. There is also a strong presence of children and youth (22%), middle age patrons (28%), and older adults (18%) in our community. Our goal is to provide continuous support for our community members in all stages of their life.
Available Languages
Our collection reflects the diversity of our community. Based on our community demographics, our collection includes materials promoting Canadian, Black, Chinese, South Asian, West Asian and Filipino heritage.
As the information, recreation, education provider of the Rougemount community, we are also the heart of the community. We act as a community hub, connecting members of our community, local organizations and groups. Rouge River Public Library is here to support you on your daily journey for information and entertainment.
